Racks and snacks

A quick post today since it's already 9 pm.

We stopped by the ADK Trading Post to publish a blog post on our way out of Long Lake. Today was hot again and the terrain was initially hilly, though not as mountainous as it has been in the past week. Lakes, forests, hills, rinse and repeat. As we cycled into the small town of Raquette Lake a lady in a car hailed Mike. Her name was Liz and she was a host on Warm Showers. She asked if we'd like to swim in the lake by her house, which was nearby. Why yes, yes, we would. We waded in and cooled off.

The next small town was Inlet where we tried to find a new rack for my bike. They only had racks with two struts. Three struts or bust! I said thanks but I'm looking for something a little sturdier and I think the proprietor was a little offended. We pedaled on regardless. Our final town of the day was Old Forge. Their bike shop had some good rack options, including a very sturdy steel Surly rack for $140. I went for the Topeak Explorer - a more economical choice. We're staying at the Old Forge Camping Resort tonight. It's huge and very popular. They have a camp store where you can get a cold beverage and a snack when you arrive. Camp stores have become one of our favorite amenities. The new rack is now on my bike, next we'll see if it holds up.

We'll try to get some photos tomorrow.

  1. Our Fourth was a visit with Grandpa in the morning -- we rolled his wheelchair under a eucalyptus tree so he could watch your Dad do an irrigation repair -- and fireworks at the high school in the evening. We missed you.

    Ride safely.

  3. Cold/chilled drinks so much better than warm water. We had a chilled beer in a bar last night much more refreshing than our warm ones. We're not doing anything much more than relaxing today. Will send photos on Whatsapp. Bet you're feeling lean and fit now. Love and hugs Deb
