Swamp to ocean

We were expecting to wake up to rain and thunderstorms this morning but the bad weather predicted never materialized (data scientists, get your act together). The forecast for the next 5-7 days involves a lot of rain so we'll see how lucky we get. There are just a few drops sprinkling on the tent as I type.

Early in the day we stopped by a bike shop to use their floor pump. It can be difficult to get our tires pumped up to full pressure using the small pumps we carry with us. The gauge on their pump said we were riding at about half of the recommended tire pressure. Whoops. As we pumped the bike shop mechanics came out to inspect our bikes and gear. Apparently they see a fair number of bike tourers come through. The owner himself is preparing for a tour with his wife on a tandem.

As we rode from the inland swamps to the beach we had a great break on a ferry. We ate giant cookies and drank sodas as we enjoyed their cushioned seats. Without going into too much detail, my bike shorts gave me problems today. I've only worn them once on the tour so far because they also gave me problems early in the trip. Today was their second strike and they are now in the bin. I'll buy another pair a little later in the trip. There are too many miles left to be wearing inadequate shorts!

Today we saw the highest number of touring cyclists yet (6 in case you were wondering). The number peaked as we followed two tourers into tonight's campground and we ourselves were trailed by another. There are three at the site next to us. I have a feeling we'll see many more before our trip is done.

Mike is starting to give me suggestions for today's blog post. The suggestions include "we renewed our vows at a shrimp restaurant" and "I wanted to buy a boat but you wouldn't let me". I think it's time for bed! Good night.

Easy miles
