Rest Day is the Best Day

It hasn't been so long since we've lived aboard our sailboat and already it seems unfamiliar to feel a boat move around beneath you as you walk through the cabin. We started the day lounging aboard Atom. I read a book about a Chilean sailing expedition and Rach started a book which will soon be topical - 'Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil.'

We spotted turtles and rays swimming near the dock and a barge worked nearby, bashing pilings into the sea floor to repair damage from a hurricane. In the mid-day we left all our gear behind and rode just east to St. Simon's Island. We ate at a cafe for lunch, walked along the fishing pier, and then ambled over to the lighthouse and gardens. Later, we splashed in the water at the beach and ate "Sea Turtle" ice cream cones. They had tiny caramel turtles mixed in.

For dinner, James and Mei were kind enough to drive us to a local Chinese buffet after they had finished boat work for the day. We traded stories of our travels and Mei's impressions of living in the United States and the television show "Naked and Afraid."

Now we're back aboard the boat again as the evening draws to a close and the low noise of cars rumbling by on the highway drifts into the cabin. Tomorrow, we resume riding and head toward Savannah.

  2. I this think stripey is the new look. You should really have short cycling shorts and long casual evening shorts then no-one will see. I’m liking the idea of caramel turtles in my ice-cream.... have a good ride. Xx
