Piggly Wiggly
Today's mileage: 81
There were no showers at our improvised campground last evening so we took a look at the map and decided to ride a little extra to reach the Hugh's Family Campground just outside of Calabash.
So, what happened today? It was hot. That I remember very clearly. Plenty of pine forests and logging trucks and tidy brick houses at the side of the road. Few shoulders and lots of rumble strips. A gas station selling crickets for bait, I think?
We had lunch in the charming downtown of Conway, South Carolina. Groucho's Deli served us veggie subs and some toffee cookies. You'll have to excuse the amount of space devoted to food in these posts.
I started to fade in the late afternoon but was revived by a large vanilla ice cream at a Wendy's. The sun started to make both Rach and I loopy.
What else? We saw two deer bound across the road during one of our roadside stops. We crossed the state line into North Carolina in the final miles of the day. The roads immediately began to improve in quality.
I suppose that's about it. Nothing too remarkable today. Just pressed out the miles. There is lots of rain in the forecast for the next few days. That may stir things up. Tomorrow, a shorter day.

You are both looking thinner. It was instructive to observe a few years ago during Mike's first cross country bike log that the subject of food became ever more pronounced. There is nothing like burning thousands of calories a day to accentuate one's focus on caloric concerns. But, I suppose that is to be expected. All of life is a balance. Fuel and consumption would seem to be a logical cynosure of your endeavor. Remember, one can not go wrong with beer and chips. As Bludney Plud has advised, "It's great to consume."
ReplyDeleteSounds like a tough day, hope you slept well and find lots of delicious food. Hope there isn’t too much rain like here! Xx
