Last night we saw hundreds of fireflies flashing around our campsite. It was cool.
We awoke to a misty morning in Georgia. Today's weather forecast predicted 90 F (32 C) so we got going a little earlier than usual. However, we needn't have worried as the heat never materialized and it remained cloudy for the day. As we moved north towards Brunswick we passed a lot of churches, and various eateries with names like "Krusty Krab", "Snappy Foods", and "Captain John's Smokehouse", one of which advertised "gator tail" as a dish. We also passed a place that sells "dead people's stuff", which we imagine must be related to the estate sale industry. The cool weather and shady highway made for some easy miles.
We're visiting James Baldwin in Brunswick, a sailor who has circumnavigated twice in the model of boat that we own. He is very kindly letting us stay aboard his boat ("Atom") tonight. It's interesting to see how his boat is put together, we're getting some ideas for improvements here. You can read about his travels here:
atomvoyages.com. We met James and his wife Mei as they were working on a couple of other boats in their marina. They showed us around and introduced us to Sergei, our boat neighbor for the evening.
We had dinner aboard Sergei's boat with a bottle of wine and good conversation. The three of us talked about our various travels and plans. Sergei and his wife have been to Tunguska in Siberia and he described his experiences not seeing other people for more than a month. He forgot to look both ways crossing the street when returned home.
Tomorrow will be a rest day. Plans are still forming. We'll let them stew overnight and decide in the morning.

I guess we know what the next adventure will be after your visit with Mr. Baldwin. Does Atom look as good in person as she does in the videos? Learn all you can as long as you are there.
ReplyDeleteKellie and I did the same walk/hike that you, Rache, Kellie and I did that went into the Old Coach neighborhood. However, there was no Katie on Valle Verde to give us a lift for the last 1/2 mile.
It's a great boat. James has given us some good suggestions.
DeleteWell, you have a few months to plan your next adventure. Hope the boat felt like home from home. The sun has finally arrived here 🌞. We are doing a youth weekend in Clermont from this Thursday - Sunday, the thought of no sleep 😴 is slightly terrifying, I may become a grumpy teacher. Have a lovely rest day. Xx
ReplyDeleteLove an abandoned tractor (or anything that has/had wheels). Dad/Pete (not Debbi as you might have guessed).
ReplyDeleteOk, Blogspot has me beat. We (try) to sign Debbi out and me into our respective Google accounts but the ‘comments’ section keeps coming up a Debbi. Maybe you’ve blocked me - understandable. Any ideas? If it’s too involved/you’re too tired, just tell me to ‘ask Dave’. The other old guy.
ReplyDeleteAlthough circumnavigating sounds exciting, I am glad your current adventure is terra firma.
